|RP Set Temp Ban on Chinese Poultry|

Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala has ordered a temporary ban on the importation of domestic and wild birds including poultry meat, day old chicks, eggs and semen originating from China to protect the health of the Filipinos and the local poultry population.
Following the report of Director General Dr. Zhang Zhongqui of the China Animal Disease Control Center, Veterinary Bureau, Ministry of Agriculture on December 21, 2013, the Department of Agriculture immediately imposed the prohibition on chicken products.
The Official Report of Dr. Zhongqui states that the outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) virus was detected in the villages of Zhungzhuang, Jiaozhuang and Baoding in Heibei, China. The Office Internationale Des Epizooties (OIE) Animal Health Information Department confirmed that H5 and H7 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Virus, detected in the villages were among the notifiable OIE listed terrestrial animal diseases, infections and infestations in force in 2014.
In line with the ban, Secretary Alcala has ordered the immediate suspension of the processing, evaluation of the application and issuance of Veterinary Quarantine Clearance (VQC/SPS) to import the aforementioned commodities from China as well as the confiscation of shipments of said commodities (with the exception on heat treated products) into the country.
All DA Veterinary Quarantine Officers/Inspectors at all major ports are instructed to effectively implement the order.
